Are you looking for answers to your homeschooling questions? Do you want to connect with other homeschoolers? This post covers many topics to help you on your homeschool journey. We’ll talk about finding mentors, getting started, convention details, and Capitol Day.
Getting Started and Staying Connected
Finding a Homeschool Mentor
It can be hard to homeschool alone. Mentors can offer support and guidance. Here’s how to find a mentor:
- CHAP Mentor Network: Visit chaponline.com/resources to find a list of mentors. You can connect with them by text, email, or phone.
- Co-ops: Talk to experienced moms at your co-op.
- Libraries and Field Trips: Ask around and connect with people you meet.
- Facebook Groups: Join online groups to find support and advice.
Are you an experienced homeschool mom? Consider becoming a mentor! You can help others on their journey.
New to Homeschooling?
Starting to homeschool can feel overwhelming. Here are some resources to help you:
- homeschoolpennsylvania.org: This website has information about Pennsylvania homeschool laws, curriculum, and other resources.
- CHAP’s YouTube Channel: Find helpful videos and information. Search for “CHAP Homeschool Pennsylvania” on YouTube.
- CHAP Convention: Come to the convention to get support and talk to other homeschoolers.
Finding Homeschool Groups
Connecting with other homeschoolers is important. Here’s how to find groups:
- chaponline.com: Check the list of homeschool groups on the CHAP website. If you lead a group that is not listed, add it to the website so others can find you.
- Facebook: Search for homeschool groups in your town or area.
- Word of Mouth: Talk to other homeschoolers and ask about groups near you.
Important Homeschool Information
Diplomas
CHAP does not keep diplomas. It is the parent’s responsibility to keep diplomas safe. If you used a diploma program, contact them to see if they have your diploma. Keep copies of all important documents at home.
Math Requirements for High School
Do you have a high schooler who struggles with math? The Pennsylvania homeschool law requires three years of math, including general math, algebra, and geometry. But, you get to decide what that looks like.
The law does not say:
- You have to finish a whole book.
- You must spend a certain amount of time on each topic.
As the parent, you decide:
- How much of each topic your child needs.
- How to make math fit your child’s abilities.
Get creative! Use hands-on activities or real-world examples. Come to the CHAP convention for more information on this topic.
