Pennsylvania House

  • The House has not been in session and will reconvene on September 23, 2024.
  • Ten bills were referred to the House Education Committee. None of these bills address homeschooling issues.

Pennsylvania Senate

  • The Senate has not been in session and will reconvene on September 16, 2024.
  • Six bills were referred to the Senate Education Committee. None of these bills address homeschooling issues.

In September, history indicates we can anticipate a significant increase in the number of bills being submitted to both Houses of the General Assembly focusing upon education.

Issues of Interest

  • The Pennsylvania Superior Court has ruled in favor of a lawsuit filed by the Pennsylvania Secretary of State to remove Cornel West from the ballot for the 2024 General Election for President.
  • The 2024 National Democratic Party platform does not mention homeschooling at all.
  • The 2024 National Republican Party platform in section 7:2 supports homeschooling and in Section 7:5 affirms the parents’ right to choose the best education program for their children.
  • Early voting in Pennsylvania starts September 16, 2024 (the earliest in the nation).
  • Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

Brad serves as the Vice President of the CHAP Board; he is also chairman of our Legislation Committee. He is a practicing attorney for 33 years and is an adjunct faculty member at Cairn University. Brad reads all proposed legislation that comes before the education committees in Harrisburg to determine the impact on homeschooling families in Pennsylvania. Brad strives to encourage and protect Christian homeschooling families in our Commonwealth.
