What volunteer position/positions are you serving in?

I am the Web Page Tech for the main CHAP website (chaponline.com) and the convention website (conv.chaponline.com).

What drew you to serve?

I was just starting my degree in Database & Web Development when the volunteer position opened. I thought it would be a great way to gain experience and boost my resume, so I applied, and I got the job! And as a homeschool grad myself, it is rewarding to work with a Christ-centered organization that’s totally dedicated to helping homeschoolers.

What do you enjoy about where you serve?

In the beginning, I enjoyed learning new skills that I would later be able to apply to a job, and the hands-on experience helped steer me in the direction of the career I now have as a WordPress web developer. And now I get to use the skills I’ve learned at work to better serve CHAP! I also really appreciate the flexibility and the freedom to be as creative as I want. Some of my favorite experiences were building the convention website and re-designing the main CHAP website. I love how they both turned out!

What would you tell others who are considering volunteer opportunities with CHAP?

If you’d like to be part of a great team (even if it’s mostly virtual interaction), think it would be cool to use your skills and talents for the good of homeschoolers across the state, and enjoy the idea of flexible hours, then go for it! I would especially encourage homeschool grads to check out ways that you can volunteer and gain experience in whatever areas interest you. You may find that, like me, even once you’ve landed your dream job, you’ll still want to “stick with CHAP!” for as long as possible! And as a final bribe, there’s usually an annual gift for the year-round volunteers; who can say no to that?!

Alisa is ready to share her knowledge of this position with the next volunteer Web Page Tech. Please consider serving with CHAP in this capacity.
